The changing world of marketing

In the modern age, businesses are faced with a massive media audience that if used correctly, can help the promotion of a company or organization.  The following three cases are examples of how social media can help or hurt marketing.

The “A List of Social Media Marketing Examples” blog by Peter Kim provides lists (alphabetically) of companies that use social media to further their business.  He uses a Wiki setup which makes it easier to navigate and is free for the public (and for Kim) to use.  His constant updates provide clear examples, but it may only be helpful if the person searching the sites know the name of the company and not necessarily the type.  However, this is a smart way of marketing online without spending a lot of money.

Another blog that introduced methods of social media marketing was “Categories List of Examples” by Ray Schiel.  This blog was similar to Kim’s “List” blog but it organized the companies into categories.  If a social media tool were to incorporate both of these types of blogs, the successes would be innumerable.  Companies would find it helpful to get their name out there and the administrators of the social media marketing sites would also find success in using these tools.

One site that was also very useful was the “Non-profits that Tweet” site that compiled a list of, well, non-profits that tweet.  Twitter has become the tool for the future and with a site like this, listing clearly what businesses are tweeting, major strides for those organizations can be made.
